The Beeville girls lost twice in pool play and captured one game in the three-game round robin. The Lady Trojans opened with a 5-0 loss to the King Lady Mustangs. They then defeated El Paso Burgess, 5-3, and subsequently dropped a 5-3 game to the Sinton Lady Pirates.
The 1-2 record in pool play placed the Lady Trojans in the tournament bracket for Friday and Saturday’s play.
On Friday, the Lady Trojans easily defeated the Austin McCallum girls 19-0 with Sera Quiroga pitching well and getting the win. The next game was against Flour Bluff and the Beeville ladies swatted the Lady Hornets 3-1 in extra innings. Destiny Herrera got two RBI’s in the extra frame to secure the win for pitcher Courtney Perez.
Saturday’s semifinal contest was against Calallen. The Lady Trojans scored three in the first and allowed the Lady Cats just one run in the third.
“We played great defense and Sera pitched a great game,” said Lady Trojan head coach Adolfo Dominguez.
The Beeville girls out-hit the Calallen girls eight to three in the win.
The championship game of the tournament bracket had the Lady Trojans playing the Carroll Lady Tigers.
After eight games in four days, the Lady Trojans looked like they ran out of gas. The Tigers belted the ball and went on to a 12-1 win.
“I saw a lot of improvement from our first pool game against King, which we lost 5 to 0. Then in the bracket games we played much better and I was really proud of the effort the girls put into the rest of the games,” Dominguez said.
“As coaches, all we are asking from our student/athletes is to play hard and to try their best and I felt that they gave us their best.”
The Lady Trojans were in Gregory-Portland on Tuesday night to resume their district battles.
The Beeville girls will entertain the Pleasanton Eaglettes on Monday, March 16, in their next home game.
