The Lady Trojan varsity soccer team was in San Antonio Friday night to meet the Harlandale Indians. The game became a stand-off between the two teams and resulted in a 1-1 tie.

The A.C. Jones ladies are now 5-2-1 in district play with the Pleasanton Eaglettes on top of the district race at 6-2 with just two matches remaining. Harlandale is third in district play at 3-2-3, followed by Southside at 2-4-2.

The teams were locked in a defensive battle throughout. The Lady Trojans had a direct kick reach the back of the net with just two seconds left to play in the first half. Mary Larakers hit the shot and gave the Beeville girls a 1-0 lead going into the second half.

The lead did not last too long as the Indians got their lone goal of the game in the early part of the second half.

The match then reverted to a defensive standoff with both teams trying to control things in the blustery conditions. Neither team got another goal and the final was a 1-1 tie.

“The Lady Trojans were not able to make the most of their opportunities in the second half. The wind was a key factor in trying to control the ball for both teams,” said head coach Robert Partida.

The Lady Trojans finish their regular season this week with two home games.

On Tuesday night, the McCollum Cowgirls rode into Beeville to challenge the JHS girls.

On Friday, the Lady Trojans will host the Floresville Jaguars in the final District 57-4A contest of the year.
