The junior varsity Lady Trojan softball team scored first on Tuesday night at Gregory-Portland but a big, eight run second by the young Ladycats paved the way to a 14-4 victory for the G-P girls.

“We left too many runners stranded and failed to execute routine plays defensively. The Wildcats took advantage of these two major components and we were not able to come back,” said JV coach Ophelia De Los Santos.

“With this loss the team now knows what it feels like to be on both ends of a competition.”

The JV girls sport a 1-1 district record with the loss.

G-P tied the game in the bottom of the first but exploded for eight runs in the second and added another two markers in the third that went unanswered.

The Lady Trojans put across three runs in the top of the fourth but that total was matched by the G-P ladies and the time limit expired with the Lady Wildcats gaining the 14-4 win.

Summer Olivo, Jade Trevino, Samantha Valencia and Skylar Nelson scored for the Beeville girls. Valencia, Nelson, Patsy Longoria, Kymberly Wolfe and Brianna Cano came through for the Lady Trojans at the plate with one hit apiece.

The JV girls will meet the Miller Lady Bucs on Friday at the A.C. Jones field. The contest will have a 2 p.m. first pitch.
