The Coyotes are coached by former Trojan head coach Chris Soza and are coming off a bi-district win over Mercedes. The Coyotes beat the Tigers 31-15 on Friday night.
The Wildcats also got a bi-district win last week as they defeated Medina Valley 27-14. The two teams have a long history as both squads were in the same district up until this year when realignment dropped Calallen in with the Beeville Trojans in District 30-4A.
Alice sports an 8-3 overall record while the Wildcats come into the game at 9-2. The winner of the contest on Friday night will meet the winner of the Cedar Park match-up with Kerrville Tivey.
Other area teams making it into the second round of the playoffs also are scheduled for the area games this week.
Woodsboro defeated Bartlett 50-20 to advance and meet Bruni at 1 p.m. on Friday at Texas A&M- Kingsville’s Javelina Stadium.
The Three Rivers Bulldogs easily defeated Santa Maria last week, 68-6, and will meet undefeated Mason at 7:30 p.m. in Hondo.
The Refugio Bobcats will open defense of the 2011 2A state championship with an area round game against Rogers at 3 p.m. on Friday at Columbus.
The George West Longhorns got a first-round bye for winning their district title and will open their playoff run on Friday at 7:30 p.m. when they meet Lago Vista at Converse Judson’s Rutledge Stadium.
Karnes City will meet Blanco at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in Wimberley.
Falls City will meet Sabinal with a date and time yet to be determined.
The Runge Yellowjackets play undefeated Somerset at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Somerset.
