BEEVILLE – Tuesday afternoon’s games with the Ingleside Lady Mustangs definitely went the Lady Trojans’ way. All three Beeville squads came out victorious and only one game was remotely close.

The freshman teams took the court first and the Lady Trojans got off to a good start by leading by five, 9-4, at the end of the first period. The Lady Mustangs regrouped and hit for 10 second period markers to gain a slim 14-13 lead at the half.

The Lady Trojans came out of the break fired up and playing great, aggressive defense. The Lady Trojans caused several Ingleside turnovers that turned into easy baskets. The Beeville girls hit for 17 third quarter points while corralling the Mustangs with only six tallies. The Beeville girls were up by 10, 30-20, entering the final period.

The visitors rallied, but the Lady Trojans kept them at bay for a 35-30 victory.

Samantha Salazar, Tiffany Vargas, Amanda Garza and Gabriella Hyturria led the Lady Trojans. No stats were made available for the contest.

The JV game was another showcase for the Beeville defensive prowess. The Lady Trojans did not allow the visitors more than five points in any one quarter. It was a 13-2 after one period, and the second quarter was a carbon copy of the first as the Beeville girls carried a 26-4 lead into the half.

The Lady Mustangs hit for three third period points and then got five markers in the final few minutes. The Lady Trojans recorded 19 second half points to cruise to a 45-12 victory.

Audrey Carranco controlled the game from her point guard position for the Lady Trojans and led all scorers with 27 points. McKenzie Harvey added six markers.

The varsity game was close through the first period as the Lady Mustangs stayed with the Beeville girls to trail by just two, 16-14. The JHS varsity upped the defensive pressure, limited their turnovers and jumped on the Mustangs in the second period. The Beeville girls hit for 19 second period points while holding the Mustangs to just seven. It was all Beeville at 35-21.

The defensive pressure kept the Mustangs on a short tether and the Lady Trojans turned the visitors’ mistakes into points in the second half. The Lady Trojans outscored Ingleside 22-6 in the third period and 16-12 in the final quarter. The final score favored Beeville 73-39.

The Lady Trojans had a balanced scoring attack and played without top scorer Victoria Elizalde. Ciara Garcia put back several rebounds to lead the Beeville scoring with 18 points. Theresa Amador hit numerous short-range jumpers for 16. Brennan Holder came through with 13 points. Krystal Cuellar contributed 12 to put four Lady Trojans in double figures. Victoria Muñoz was close with nine points. Post Paige McKinney added five and helped limit the Mustangs to just one shot by cleaning up on the boards.

The Lady Trojans play again next Friday night when they travel to George West to meet the Lady ’Horns at 6 p.m.
