ATHENS — How many times has a lake produced three 15-pound ShareLunkers in a row?

Until Saturday, the answer was once: Lake Fork, in a remarkable run during February 1991, when anglers caught fish weighing 17.08, 15.41 and 16.54 pounds over the span of just four days.

Carl Ames of Helotes changed that when he caught the latest ShareLunker from Choke Canyon Reservoir in Live Oak County, a fish that tipped the scale at the Calliham Store at 15.27 pounds. The fish was 26.5 inches long and 21.25 inches in girth. Calliham Store is an official ShareLunker weigh and holding station.

Also on Saturday, Kenneth Shane of Burleson caught a 13.28-pounder from Lake Fork. Shane was fishing in 2.5 to 3 feet of water in the back of a creek when the fish took a white Senko. The fish was 26 inches long and 20.75 inches in girth.

Shane’s fish was taken to Lake Fork Marina, which is also an official ShareLunker weigh and holding station. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is setting up a network of holding stations on major lakes to make sure that ShareLunkers are held in the best possible conditions before being picked up.
