Jessica Urguizo was only five when she saw her first performance of “The Nutcracker” at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi.

It was then that she decided to become a dancer. And this year, Urguizo will perform in the famous ballet.

Urguizo, who just turned 16, has been dancing for the past seven years and currently is a student of James and Kathy Taylor at The Dance Studio, 414 N. St. Mary’s St.

The dancer recently auditioned with the company she first saw perform the Christmas special, the Corpus Christi Ballet, and was chosen as one of the dancers.

She will be in performances on Dec. 8 and 9 and again on Dec. 15 and 16 at the Selena Auditorium in Corpus Christi.

Then, as part of a special event in Beeville, the dancer will perform at Coastal Bend College on Dec. 15.

The performance will be part of this year’s “Santa Comes 2 Beeville!” performance at the Gertrude R. Jones Fine Arts Auditorium.

The event is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on both Dec. 15 and 16, and performances by dancers, singers and acrobats are scheduled.

Also, folklorico ballet performances will be on the schedule, in addition to a visit by Santa Claus himself.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite” will be presented on Saturday from 2-5 p.m. at the Peppermint Palace in the annex next door to the Rialto Theater in downtown Beeville.

That presentation will be part of Beeville’s Holly Jolly Christmas event, and both children and adults are welcome.
