The Beeville grapplers placed fourth overall in a field of 32 schools, most of them 5A schools. The Lady Trojan wrestlers placed eighth out of 29 teams participating.
“I feel we wrestled a lot more aggressive and with more determination at this tournament,” said head coach Terry Foster.
At 120 pounds, Trojan Rogelio Salazar captured first place, defeating a Judson Converse opponent in the finals. The Judson wrestler had previously defeated Salazar the prior weekend in the Charger Classic.
Trojan Brent Puga also won in the finals to earn a first place medal and points for Beeville. Puga pinned his opponent from San Marcos in the first period. Other Trojan wrestlers also did well at the SA meet.
Cordell Aguirre placed second in the 152-pound class. Lady Trojan Danielle Perez placed third in the 102-pound division. At 126 pounds, Trojan Mario Perez placed fourth, as did Lady Trojan Briana Gobel at 128 pounds. Teammate Heidi Rodriguez also earned fourth place points in the 148-pound division.
On Thursday, the Trojans traveled to Victoria to meet in a three-way match with both East and West.
On Friday and Saturday, the Trojans went to Corpus Christi and to participate in the Gulf Coast Duals/Lady Texan Invitational where the boys began their side of the draw on Friday and will have their finals on Saturday. The Lady Trojans hit the mats for their rounds of competition on Saturday with the finals later that day.
