Bee Development Authority Administrative Assistant Lisa Del Bosque will be able to provide more help for her boss now that she has completed the Texas Engineering Service’s Basic Economic Development course.

Del Bosque has been working with BDA Executive Director Joe B. Montez for several years, watching the front office, keeping up with Montez’s schedule and taking charge of the paperwork around the BDA’s headquarters at the Chase Field Industrial and Airport Complex.

“The course allows me to help him now in doing the research,” Del Bosque said.

She traveled to Austin for the Feb. 16-19 course at the Hilton Gardens Hotel downtown. The course is offered through the Texas A&M University System in partnership with the Texas Economic Development Council.

“It taught me more of what’s involved in economic development,” Del Bosque said.

The course also brought her closer to being certified as an economic developer.

“I’m looking forward to taking the next class,” Del Bosque said. “I’m glad he sent me so now I can do more of what he has to do.”

Del Bosque also is working on her bachelor of arts degree from the Incarnate Word University.

She said the course gave her a more basic understanding of what she already has learned working for Montez at the BDA.

“I don’t have a backup for economic development,” Montez said.

For that reason, Montez and BDA board members decided it would be a good idea to send Del Bosque to take some courses and have her start working toward certification in the field.

“She’s close to having her bachelor’s degree,” Montez commented. She might be able to take more courses in the future and work toward full certification in the economic development field.

“This is a win-win situation and I’m pleased to have someone who can back me up,” Montez said. “The more we can develop young people to enhance the growth of this community, the better.”
