AUSTWELL — In a hard-fought contest last night, the Pettus varsity boys basketball team came up short, 67-55, to the Fighting Redfish.

The game went back and forth all evening.

“Our young men played very hard, but ultimately, our errors cost Pettus the game,” said Eagle head coach Tony Ferguson.

The Redfish took a five-point lead, 18-13, after one quarter and stretched that to a 38-31 advantage at the buzzer ending the first half.

A-T was still hot and poured in 21 points in the third period to gain a little breathing room. The Eagles added 14 markers in the third but slipped a little further behind at 59-45.

The pace slowed in the fourth quarter as the Redfish tried and succeeded in using the clock. The home team added eight points to their score, and the Eagles knocked off two of the A-T lead with 10 markers.

Eric Montez and Matt Gonzales led the Eagle scoring attack with 15 points apiece in the contest. Stayton Lindeman was also in double figures with 10. Clay Brown followed closely with nine points. John Grayson added six. Brown had three treys in the tilt and Lindeman hit one long-range jumper.

“These young men continue to work hard and improve their skills, as always. I continue to be proud of them and what they are trying to accomplish this season,” Ferguson said.

The Eagles played at Runge on Friday, and on Tuesday, they will host the Yorktown Wildcats.
