FALLS CITY – The Falls City City Council has set the dates for the annual city-wide cleanup, during the Jan. 9 regular council meeting.

This year’s dates for the annual cleanup were approved by the council and will be from April 13 through April 21.

The primary purpose of the cleanup dates is to give citizens a time and opportunity to properly dispose of large trash and junk items that are too big be disposed of through the regular trash collection service of the city.

“Every year in the spring we have our trash company bring huge roll-off dumpsters, so that citizens can dump big-article things that you can’t normally just set out on the side of the road to pick up,” explained Mayor Brent Houdmann.

The April dates are chosen so as to coincide when many people are doing spring cleaning.

“It will give the citizens two weekends when they can go and dump trash,” said Houdmann of the April dates. “It will be open on the weekdays as well, but usually on the weekends is when people will dump their trash. We always fill it up. People always take that time to throw away stuff they’ve been needing to get rid of.”
