BEEVILLE — District Judge Joel Johnson named the 12 regular and two alternate members of the January term of the Bee County Grand Jury on Tuesday.

The members will serve until July when a new grand jury will be appointed.

George Hatch, III of Beeville was named foreman of the group, and Johnson appointed Malisa Hardin of Sinton as the alternate foreman.

Other members were Valerie Garza, Ruben Atkinson III, Joanna Rincon, Delia Caballero, Elva Bernal, Mark Santa Ana, Rick Richardson and Mary Ann Fritz, all of Beeville.

Out-of-town grand jurors were Dale Schubert of Skidmore and Vera Turruviate of Sinton.

The two alternates were Brittany Banda and Jennifer Roberts of Beeville.

Alternates will stand in for regular members who are not able to make the monthly grand jury meetings.

Grand jurors do not determine guilt or innocence when they hear evidence of crimes allegedly committed in the county.

They listen to prosecutors and investigators to determine if there is enough evidence in a case to bring it to trial.

Guilt or innocence is determined by a district judge or a trial jury.
