Jeff Garza is the featured soloist for Mozart’s well-known Horn Concerto No. 4, one of the selections on the program for this Friday’s concert by the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra at 7 p.m. in the A.C. Jones High School Auditorium.

The concert is sponsored by the Beeville Concert Association, with generous support from the Joe Barnhart Foundation, Texas Commission on the Arts and Coastal Bend Community Foundation, as well as funds from many local sponsors, benefactors, patrons and friends.

The program also includes Haydn’s “Le Reine” Symphony and Mozart’s “Jupiter” Symphony.

Hailed by the San Antonio Express-News as “a musician of rare authority,” Garza has been principal horn of the San Antonio Symphony since September 2004 and is sought after throughout the United States as a teacher, chamber musician and orchestral performer.

During the summer season, Garza is principal horn of the Britt Festival Orchestra in Jacksonville, Ore., and the Festival Mozaic Orchestra in San Luis Obispo, Calif. He has previously held principal positions with the Houston Grand Opera, Utah Festival Opera and has served as guest principal horn of the Brevard Music Center Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.

In January 2007, Garza served as principal horn during the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra’s European tour, including performances in Berlin, Vienna, Warsaw and Budapest. Past engagements also include positions with the New World Symphony, Tanglewood Music Center, National Repertory Orchestra, Jerusalem International Symphony Orchestra and Houston Ballet Orchestra.

Garza is a member or regular guest performer with most of the leading chamber groups in South Texas, including the San Antonio Brass, the Olmos Ensemble, Camerata San Antonio, SOLI Ensemble, Musical Bridges and the Cactus Pear Music Festival.

The talented horn player earned a bachelor of music degree from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music.

Garza is adjunct professor of horn at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.

The concert is free to all students through high school age, to Coastal Bend College students with their student IDs, and to any adult who brings two children or young people through high school age to the performance. Admission for other adults who do not hold BCA season memberships is $10 at the door.
