Deputy Adrian Peña was on patrol in Skidmore at about 2:37 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, when he noticed the front glass door of Papa’s Market had been shattered.
As he pulled into the parking lot to investigate, he saw a masked suspect holding a baseball bat near the cash register. The suspect fled the store carrying stolen beer and tobacco products.
Peña chased the suspect for about a block before apprehending him. After placing him under arrest, it was determined that he was a juvenile.
Investigator Lt. John L. Davis said that during the investigation, a second juvenile, age 15, was identified as participating in the burglary as well.
Davis said both suspect juveniles admitted to their actions and said they were also responsible for the burglary of the Fast Break Store in Pettus earlier that morning.
Davis said the investigation is ongoing and more juveniles may be implicated.
Carrizales commended Peña for his quick action and for the apprehension of the juveniles.
