BEEVILLE — The Lady Trojan varsity softball squad dealt the Ingleside Mustangs an 18-8 loss in six innings on Tuesday night.

“We got off to a good start with eight runs and the first two innings, but then we only managed one run in the next three innings,” said Trojan head coach Jose Flores.

“We need to learn how to finish off teams down the road.”

Rebecca De Los Santos had the Mustangs corralled through the first four innings, giving up just one run in the fourth. The Lady Trojans had a 9-1 lead heading into the home half of that frame.

Ingleside shut down the Beeviile offense in the fourth and scored two runs in the fifth and five big runs in the sixth to close to within one at 9-8. The Lady Trojans exploded in the bottom of the sixth to close out the game as nine Beeville runs crossed the plate to earn the 10-run rule victory.

Brianna Gobel had four hits in five trips to the plate to lead the Jones High offense. She also scored four runs. Alyssa Bates (two doubles) and Alexis Martinez each contributed three hits in the win. Andrea Briseno stroked two hits to help the offensive attack.

The Lady Trojans amassed 19 base hits in the win along with 16 RBIs against the Ingleside hurlers.

“I was happy with our effort, and I am hoping to see more offense this weekend in the Sinton tournament. It would be nice to put together some sort of winning streak,” Flores said.

De Los Santos went the distance in the circle for the win, giving up seven hits and five earned runs over the six-inning stint.

The Lady Trojans are competing in the Sinton tournament this weekend.
