In the tourney opener for the Lady Trojans, the Ray Lady Texans defeated the Beeville girls 10-1 in four innings (limited by time restraints). The Beeville girls got their lone run in the first inning. Eddika Ortega reached base safely, and Alyssa Bates brought her across the plate with and RBI hit to give the Lady Trojans an early 1-0 lead. Ray then went to work at the plate and put up four runs in the first, another three in the third and closed out the contest with three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to get the 10-1 victory. Amanda Gonzales also hit safely in the game for the Beeville girls.
Rebecca De Los Santos took the loss but only gave up two earned runs as the Lady Trojans had some defensive lapses that helped the Texans.
Game two had the Lady Trojans in against Odem and the Owls’ pitching dominated the Trojan bats, shutting out Beeville 9-0 in six innings. The Lady Trojans were no-hit while the Owls pounded out 11 base knocks to get the victory. Theresa Amador took the loss for Beeville, giving up four earned runs.
The Kingsville Lady Brahmas were up next for A.C. Jones. The Brahmas carried some big sticks and jumped on the Lady Trojans with 10 runs in the top of the first and then coasted to a 17-3 victory in three innings.
Ortega came up with two hits for the Beeville girls while Brianna Goebel, Bates (two RBIs) and Andrea Briseno all added base hits for the Lady Trojans. De Los Santos took the loss in the circle.
The Beeville girls on Saturday played the Yoakum Bulldogs in a fairly competitive contest. The Lady ’Dogs edged the Lady Trojans 5-1 over four and a half innings.
It was 0-0 through two frames and the Lady Trojans got one run in the top of the third to sneak in front. The Yoakum girls answered with four runs in their home-half of the third to gain the lead. They added a single run in the fourth to ensure the victory.
De Los Santos and Gobel picked up Beeville’s only two hits. Gobel got the RBI, driving in Amador who had reached on a walk. De Los Santos got the loss in the circle but gave up just one earned run as the two Beeville errors led to the other Yaokum runs.
The JHS girls picked up their lone win of the tourney against George West in a 12-10 slugging duel.
The Lady ’Horns took the lead with three first inning runs and added two more in the second to grab a 5-0 lead. The Beeville bats got to work in the bottom of the second as the ladies exploded for eight big runs. It was 8-5 going into the third frame.
GW fought back and put up five runs in the top of the third to regain the lead at 10-8. Beeville responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to regain the lead and then shut down the Lady Horns’ bats in the top of the fifth to get the win at 12-10.
Gonzales and Briseno both had two hits in the win for the Lady Trojans. Briseno got two RBI’s on the day. Bates, Alexis Olivarez and Lynn Puente each hit safely in the game. Amador went the distance to earn the win.
The Lady Trojans were in Ingleside on Tuesday night to meet the Lady Mustangs. Another tournament (Mira’s Bash) this weekend in Corpus Christi will close out the team’s early non-district schedule. District play begins on March 5 when the G-P girls travel to Beeville.
