AUSTIN -– This week, State Rep. Yvonne Gonzalez Toureilles joined her colleagues in the House of Representatives in honoring all firefighters of Texas.

In recognition of the valor and sacrifice of these men and women, Rep. Toureilles joint and coauthored several pieces of legislation supporting firefighters.

First on the list of priorities for volunteer firehouses is House Bill 387. This bill would exempt volunteer departments from the motor fuel tax.

“When I visit with my local firefighters in the district, I am consistently met by men and women who are dedicated to their local communities. I will continue to support all my firefighters as gratitude for their dedication and sacrifice.” Also, there are eight other pieces of legislation that will provide various benefits for firefighters across the state.

Also this week, House Bill 3142, which she filed, was discussed in the Health and Human Services Committee. The bill mandates the state increase the reimbursement rate for nursing care facilities to meet the national average.

Rep. Toureilles said, “We all have an obligation to ensure that our seniors are taken care of in a manner that is worthy of all of their hard work. At a time when the cost of living continues to increase, the state must step in and cover their basic needs.”

Toureilles encourages her constituents to contact her by calling toll free at 1-800-240-2294.
