Gary Wright filed as a candidate for Refugio ISD Board of Trustees, Place 4. He issued the following statement this week:

“I would like to announce my candidacy for Refugio Independent School District Director, District 4.

“Education has always been a priority in my life. After attending Texas A&M for my undergraduate hours, I pursued my Doctorate in New York at the New York Chiropractic College.

“I started practicing in December 1994 in West Seneca, N.Y., a suburb of Buffalo. After three years, I sold my practice in New York and moved back to Refugio, where I opened my practice in 1997 and am still currently practicing.

“Since coming home, I have served on the Refugio Chapter of the American Cancer Society, Lions Club, Texas Chiropractic Association and as a Board Member on the Refugio County Groundwater Conservation District.

“I feel my experience in private practice for 15 years and four years of service as a Refugio County Groundwater Conservation Board Member has prepared me to look critically at budget concerns.

“I have children in the school system and my concern for our school’s welfare and the quality of education is paramount. I will be a voice of reason and purpose for our district and hope to guide our school into the future in an environment where board members, administration, faculty and staff work together to improve both the quality and environment for our youth.

“As a board member, my energy will be focused on our commitment to managing the school’s resources to ensure that every student can be competitive after graduation whether this student is pursuing secondary education, skilled job training or immediately entering the workforce.

“Please turn out and vote by May 9. Early voting begins April 27 and closes May 5.

“Your support in this effort is most appreciated. A town’s future lies with its youth.”
