Bee County Crime Stoppers has been awarded a $5,000 grant that was included in the federal government’s 2009 Omnibus Appropriations Act.

U.S. Rep Rubén Hinojosa made the announcement recently, saying the money comes from funds to be used to promote the Crime Stoppers community and campus programs.

The omnibus bill will fund the federal government through Sept. 30, Hinojosa said.

“Bee County Crime Stoppers’ board of directors wants to thank Hinojosa for making this grant possible,” said BCCS President Cathey Brown. “All of the $5,000 will be used to advertise our program.”

“We will use it to purchase large signs, materials for students in our Safe School program, and various other advertising items. It will help to promote our Tipline and web page throughout our community.”

“ We sincerely appreciate the support Congressman Hinojosa has shown our Crime Stoppers program, and will continue to work towards our goal of making our Crime Stoppers organization a success,” Brown said.

The BCCS also intends to expend its services into surrounding counties within Hinojosa’s 15th Congressional District.
