He was born Sept. 17, 1934, in Gonzales to Rook Ross and Beatrice (Talley) Nelson. He married Linda Jones on July 19, 1960, in Kenedy. He was a tool pusher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rook Ross and Beatrice Nelson; and a brother, Johnny Nelson.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Nelson of Beeville; two daughters, Robin Becton of Weesatche and Laura (Joe) Moody of Beeville; three sons, Rookie (Shawn) Nelson of Poth, Jerry (Kristen) Nelson of Floresville and Patrick (Nancy) Nelson of Beeville; 12 grandchildren, Timmy, Sunny, Tyrel, Jarod, Christian, Ashley, Rhiannon, Corin, Avery, Brock, Kaitlyn and Elijah; three sisters, Helen Neely of Beeville, Alice Rollins of Tuleta and Lillie (Hubert) Harris of Beeville; and two brothers, Jack (Betty) Nelson of San Antonio and Jimmy (Helen) Nelson of Pettus.
A memorial service will be held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at Treviño Funeral Home Chapel.
