The Pettus Eagles and Lady Eagles competed at the District 31-A track meet in Ben Bolt last week and qualified several athletes for this week’s area meet in Beeville.

The top four finishers in each event at the district meet advance to the area meet. The area meet was held on Thursday at Beeville’s Veterans Memorial Stadium.

In the varsity boys’ competition at district, Eagle senior Michael Perkins won the 100-meter dash title and was fourth in the long jump event. Freshman Hunter Tomlin won the long jump competition in Ben Bolt and also qualified with a third place finish in the triple jump.

Sophomore Tim Gill also competed in Beeville as the 3,200-meter run district champ and placed second in the 1,600-meter run at district for the Eagles.

The Lady Eagles placed several athletes at district to advance to the area meet.

Freshman Chloe Garza competed in four individual events. She placed fourth in the long jump, fourth in the triple jump, third in the 100-meter dash and third in the 200-meter dash at Ben Bolt.

Senior Victoria Garza competed as the district title holder in the 800-meter run. Freshman Savannah Del Bosque won both the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run for the Lady Eagles last week.

Senior Sarah Gill placed third in the 400-meter event. Senior Paige Fox placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles for Lady Eagle coach Veronica Garza.

The mile relay squad placed second with the Pettus foursome of V. Garza, C. Garza, Fox and Gill.

“I was extremely pleased with the girls’ performance. Each demonstrated desire, dedication and determination throughout the season,” said coach Garza.

“Their results were evidence of their hard work.”
