Lt. Michael Willow of the Beeville Police Department has announced that the second annual Save A Life Coed Softball Tournament will be held on Saturday, April 25, at Veterans Memorial Park.

Once again, the event will benefit BPD detective Sammy Abrigo, who currently is undergoing treatment for leukemia at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston.

Willow said the event will benefit other cancer patients in the future, after Abrigo has completed his treatment and is back at work. Cancer patients incur a number of expenses while under treatment that insurance does not cover.

Willow said the turnout for last year’s event was outstanding and spectators and competitors alike enjoyed some first-class softball games.

There is a $100 per team entry fee and a $7 per game official fee.

Organizers also plan a home run derby and raffles and other fund-raising activities for the day.

For more information or to enter a team, interested people should contact Benito or Sandra Perez at 542-4189.
