City Manager Deborah Ballí said the rate would be necessary to pay the district’s debt service for the 2013-14 fiscal year. She said the district’s rollback rate actually is lower, at $0.1.8421 per $100 of assessed value.
However, the higher proposed rate would be subject to a rollback election because that is the minimum the district needs to pay its debts.
Board member Ronald “Buddy” Hardy made the motion to make that the proposed rate and member Bill Stockton seconded it.
Other board members, including BWSD President Jim Crumrine and members Kenneth Elsbury and Kay Hickey, voted in favor of the motion.
Before adjourning, the board members voted to:
— Set a public hearing on the proposed rate for Aug. 28 at 5:30 p.m.
— Pay water pump invoices for work done earlier in the year.
— Wait until they receive a report from Urban Engineering on the cost of installing larger storage tanks at Veterans Memorial Park before deciding on taking on that project.
— Advertise for proposals for independent auditing services of the water district’s financial records.
