The members from the Three Rivers, Court 2376, Our Lady of the Rivers, Catholic Daughters of the Americas that will be attending the convention in McAllen are Carmelita Moreno, Donna Nunnelly, Antonia Quiroz, Mary Caballero, Estella Salazar, Sonia Rodriguez, Celia Ruiz, Sheryl Henry.
The opening Mass will be held Thursday, April 23 at the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan Del Valle with the procession beginning at 7:30 p.m.
State Regent, Carolyn Bachmann of Scotland will open convention Friday, April 24 and preside over all convention business. Other state officers participating are First Vice State Regent Sheila Martinka, Houston; Second Vice State Regent Carolyn Malik, Shiner; State Secretary Peggy Rosales, Austin; and State Treasurer Eve Trevino, Corpus Christi. State Chaplain/National Clergy Consultant Reverend Donald Ruppert, East Bernard; National Director Duchess Collins, Sugar Land; National Regent Libby Ramirez, Victoria and many Local Court Chaplains throughout Texas will participate.
Convention business includes proposal of Resolutions and Bylaw Amendments, election of the 2009-2011 state officers and nominating committee members, reports, the announcement of the top five District Deputies, the various winners in Circle of Love, Newsletter, Website, and Scrapbook contests. Also offered to delegates, alternates and guests will be daily Mass, special guest speakers, and several workshops.
The workshops offered to delegates and alternates include Membership/Recruitment, Junior Catholic Daughters, Protocol, Fund Raising, Standing Rules and Budgets, Retention of Records, Circle of Love Programs, Forms and Documentation.
Projected activities include a Memorial Mass for Deceased Members by State Chaplain Rev. Don Ruppert, state board luncheon, clergy/men’s luncheon, past regent luncheon, junior catholic daughters mass by JCDA Chaplain Rev. John Peters, fiesta fun night, formal banquet, and the annual raffle.
An addition to the convention activities will be the 6:45 a.m. Sunday morning Walk/Run event; so pack your tennis shoes ladies! The convention will conclude Sunday with the Instillation Mass of new officers for 2009-2011
The Catholic Daughters of the Americas is a non-profit organization for Catholic women with the Senior Court open to women over age 18, a Campus Court for young women attending college and the Junior Courts. Eight Senior Courts, two Campus Courts and six Junior Courts were instituted during the 2007-2009 term making Texas the leader in CDA Court membership and development.
