A 48-year-old Port Lavaca woman was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when she fell off the back of a motorcycle near the intersection of West Corpus Christi and Quinn streets.

Isabel Olscuaga was taken by AngelCare ambulance to Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville around 2:45 p.m.

Julio Del Toro, who works at the Boys & Girls Club of Beeville, located at the intersection, witnessed the accident.

“There were about 12 motorcycles (heading east on Corpus Christi Street) and she was riding on the back of the last motorcycle,” said Del Toro, who was standing outside the clubhouse when the accident occurred. “I guess she went up to fix her hair or something because she let go of her dude and raised her hands up behind her head and then she just slipped off, fell off the back of the bike and hit her head.”

Del Toro said he thinks Olscuaga stopped breathing while she lay on the hot pavement.

Beeville Police Department Patrolman Jonell Cisneros confirmed Del Toro’s account.

Police Chief Joe Treviño said Olscuaga and her companion were among a group of motorcycle riders in town for the funeral of Ruben Flores, who was recently killed in a motorcycle accident in Seguin.
