City police officers arrested a 19-year-old man here Tuesday afternoon on a charge of injury to a child with reckless bodily injury.

Detective Eddie Garcia said the charge is a state jail felony punishable by a term of from six months to two years in a state jail facility and a fine of as much as $10,000.

The suspect, Joshua Hagans, was still in custody at the Bee County Jail Thursday afternoon on a $2,500 bond set by Justice of the Peace Raul Casarez.

Garcia said the victim, a boy, was thought to be an infant when he suffered bruises on his head and right flank and a skull fracture. Medical personnel also reported that the child had healing fractures on his left leg above the ankle and on his right femur just above the knee.

The child had been born on April 11 but was not taken to the hospital here until May 18. Medical personnel at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville noticed the injuries and reported them to a Child Protective Services worker from Corpus Christi who apparently was at the local hospital when the victim arrived. The CPS worker then notified police of the injuries.

Detective Lt. Rene Guerrero said Hagans was taken into custody at 3:29 p.m. Tuesday by Sgt. Roland Rodriguez.
