The young A team seventh and eighth grade girls captured two victories over the Lady ’Hounds on Monday night.
In the 8A game, the Lady Cats jumped out to a 10-2 lead after the first period. The S-T defense held the home team scoreless over the second period while the S-T girls added six more points to their side of the score board. It was 16-2 at the half.
The Lady Cats were out-scored 19-16 in the second half, but it wasn’t nearly enough of a rally by the Taft girls to scare the S-T squad. It was a 32-21 final with the Lady Cats getting the win and improving their season record to 7-5.
Mary Scott led the S-T offense with 12 markers. Mireyna Solis hit for 11 points in the win while MyKayla Rocha followed with six points. Brianna Moreno added three tallies.
“I was happy to end the season with a win over Taft. Our team came out and really got after it from the get go,” said coach Tim Stowe.
“I am really proud of how my team has worked for me all year. I have asked them to do a lot of things this year that were new for them, and they responded in a great way.”
In the seventh grade A game, (a combined squad of A&B team members) the young Lady Cats captured a close 20-14 tilt over the Taft girls.
Laikyn Lopez finished with six points as did Megan Haggard. Madeline Dougherty scored her first two points of the season in the win over Taft.
The B team girls, when combined with the A squad, helped get two wins and also went a great 10-0 on the season in their own ‘B’ games this year.
“I am very proud of the Lady Cats, and I am honored to have been their coach for the season. They have heart and truly try their best, and that is all I could have asked for,” said S-T JH coach Merika Perez.
