The Beeville Community Chorus will present its annual spring concert on Tuesday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Gertrude R. Jones Fine Arts Building on the Coastal Bend College campus.

The choir is under the direction of Dr. James Lee. Nona Schorp is the accompanist. The choir will sing a variety of songs ranging from sacred anthems and spirituals and Broadway show tunes.

The choir will open the first section of the concert with four sacred anthems by American living composers. One of the anthems, Agnus Dei from “Missa Kenya” by Paul Basler, a professor of music at the University of Florida, will be accompanied on the percussion by Linda Switzer and Gene Stephenson on the alto saxophone.

The second section of the concert will feature two well-known spirituals, “Nobody Knows the Trouble I See” and “Down by the Riverside.” The last section will open with “Give My Regards to Broadway.” The choir will sing a lovely arrangement of the well-known and beloved Irish tune, “Danny Boy.”

From the 1998 animated film, “The Prince of Egypt,” the choir will perform one of the favorite songs from the film, “When You Believe.” The film tells the story of Moses and Ramses with some Hebrew text.

The choir will conclude the concert with a medley of songs from the 1961 musical, “Stop the World I Want to Get Off.”

In support of the Beeville Community Chorus, the admission to the concert will be $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and $2 for students and children. All 2008-2009 patrons will be admitted free with the presentation of their season patron card.
