The Moody Trojans were in Beeville last Friday night to meet the local Trojans in a varsity baseball match-up at Joe Hunter Field.

Moody is the state’s top-ranked 4A baseball team and can really hit. They pitch pretty well too. The visitors captured a 14-1 win over the Beeville boys in five innings.

The Moody Trojans belted two home runs in the contest. The first was a three-run shot by Rudy Flores in the top of the first off Beeville starter Eric Soza. The second round-tripper was a grand slam off the bat of A.J. Longoria in the big eight-run Moody second inning that put the game out of Beeville’s reach.

The Beeville boys managed three hits off Moody starter Andrew Cantu, who won for the seventh time on the year against no defeats. Beeville’s Matt Botello, Jared Carrillo and Bryant Holmes all hit safely against the Moody hurler.

The lone run for the local Trojans came in the third inning with Spencer Finch crossing home plate after reaching on a walk from Cantu. Beeville center fielder Cody Johnson also worked Cantu for a free pass in the contest.

The A.C. Jones varsity will host Ray on Friday night to end the season. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Joe Hunter Field.
