Skidmore-Tynan JH boys track competes at Owls meet

ODEM – The Skidmore-Tynan Junior High track teams competed in the Owls relays on Feb. 20 with good results.

“We did pretty good considering we lost some practice time due to some pretty cold weather last month. All in all, we were pleased with the results of the first track meet,” said coach John Salinas.

More importantly, we were pleased with the number of kids that came out for track. We had nearly 50 kids.”

The seventh grade boys had the following results:

Samson Tovar - first place in the 800-meter run

Jessie Sabala - first place in the 100-meter dash

Matt Nelson - first place in the 400-meter dash

Ryan Garcia - second place in the 400-meterdash

Mereck Belcher - second place in the 400-meter dash

Cole Terry - third place in the 100-meter dash

Julian Jimenez - third place in the 200-meter dash

The 800-meter relay team of Garcia, Terry, Nelson and Storm Toelkin finished third.

Belcher - fourth in the 2,400-meter event

Ryan Dixon - fourth in the 400-meter dash

The 400-meter relay squad of Garcia, Sabala, Jimenez and Toelkin was fifth.

Marcos Hinojosa - fifth in the discus

Vincent Tamez - fifth in the 200-meter dash

A.J. Arredondo - sixth in the 100-meter dash

Nelson - sixth in the shot put

The eighth grade boys had the following results:

George Trevino - first in the 1,600-meter run

Tristan Canales - first in the 100-meter dash

Ian Crittenden - first place in the 110-meter hurdles and second place in the 300-meter hurdles

Tim Leafty - second in the 200-meter dash

Kalvin Martin - second place in the 110-meter hurdles and fourth place in the 300-meter hurdles

Armando Rivas - fourth place in the 200-meter dash

The 1,600-meter relay team of Crittenden, Martin, Leafty and Mason Crawley was fourth.

Crawley - fifth in the shot put

Kolbe Westmoreland - fifth in the 100-meter dash

In the 400-meter relay, the team of Rivas, Canales, Jordan Chavarria and Angel Castillo placed sixth.

Westin Keese was sixth in the 3,000-meter hurdles.

The 800-meter relay squad of Trevino, Canales, Crawley and Castillo placed sixth.
