ODEM – The host Owls varsity softball and baseball teams recorded convincing wins over the visiting Skidmore-Tynan squads on Friday night.

The baseball Owls won 17-3 over the Bobcats while the softball Lady Cats lost 14-4.

The softball game was over early as the Lady Owls took advantage of S-T errors to put runs up on the board.

“We still made too many errors, physical and mental,” said head coach Catherine Stowe.

Dolores Hinojosa pitched for the Lady Cats and absorbed the loss in the circle. The S-T offense was led by Ariel Garcia and Alex Lara; both went 2-3 at the plate for the Lady Cats.

The loss dropped the Lady Cats’ season record to 7-12 and they are 1-11 in district play with just two games remaining. The Lady Cats played host to San Diego on Tuesday night and will be in Freer to tangle with the Lady Bucks on Thursday in the season finale.

The baseball Bobcats also had trouble in the field as the Owls captured an easy 17-3 win.

“We hit the ball a lot better, but we need to play better defense. We are giving up too many unearned runs,” said head coach James Stancek.

Justin Hernandez was 1-2 at the plate for the Bobcats as was Aaron Hughes. Hughes was also credited with a RBI and one run scored. T.J. Amador went 2-3 with an RBI. Sal Soto also picked up one hit in two official trips to the plate.

Just like the Lady Cats, the Bobcats faced the visiting San Diego Vaqueros on Tuesday and will travel to Freer on Thursday night to play the Buckaroos. The season finale for the Bobcats is on Tuesday, April 22, in Taft against the Greyhounds.
