Spanish instruction, for beginners or those who wish to increase their fluency, will be offered at the Instituto Mexicano de Español y Cultura, with an option of three or five hours per day. Instruction will be tailored to the level of the student.
Weekday afternoons will be devoted to touring Cuernavaca and shopping in the artisan markets. Excursions to nearby cities or villages (Taxco, Tepoztlán, Mexico City, Teotihuacán) will be made on weekends.
Cost for the program is $1,375 for three hours of Spanish lessons per day, lodging and three meals a day with a Mexican family, all excursions and transportation to and from the airport in Mexico City. Airfare and passport are not included. For five hours per day of language study the cost is $1,500. For one week, the total cost of the program for studying three hours per day is $750; for five hours per day, $825.
“Fortunately, airfare right now is lower than it’s been in years,” Past said. “My round-trip ticket plus travel insurance cost less than $300.”
Past’s daughter, Mariana, a Spanish professor at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., is accompanying her, as are Mariana’s children, 10-year-old Ray and 6-year-old Ana, who will be students at IMEC.
