BEEVILLE — Coastal Bend College has two interim directors of nursing.

Family Nurse Practitioner Mercedita — call her “Mercy” — Flynn was named interim director of the Vocational Nursing Education Program Thursday following approval by the Texas Board of Nursing.

Karyn Mills, also a family nurse practitioner, will serve as the interim director of the Professional Nursing Education Program.

The college had been without a director since April 26 when it fired Eloisa Garcia for spending two days a month as a family nurse practitioner at a local clinic, which she said was required if she was to maintain her nursing certifications.

Because the college also paid her for those days, it demanded repayment; Garcia refused.

Flynn has more than 20 years of experience in nursing and nursing education — most of it in the Beeville area. Mills has nearly 20 years of experience in the nursing field. She currently teaches at the CBC Alice site.

“We have received excellent feedback from students and faculty” about the pair, says Dr. Kyle Wagner, vice president of instruction and economic development.
