BEEVILLE – Early voting by personal appearance in the May 10 elections for two City Council positions is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 28, at City Hall.

Early voting by personal appearance will end at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 6.

This year, elections will be held in Ward 3, where Benjamin Ray “Benny” Puente Jr. will face incumbent Councilman David Carabajal.

Carabajal was elected mayor by council members following his most recent re-election two years ago.

The only other ward that will be voting for a council member will be Ward 4, where two first-time candidates for the council will be running.

Those candidates will be Yvonne Dunn and Domingo V. Salinas.

The Ward 4 incumbent, John Govella Fulghum, chose to file in Ward 2 right before the filing deadline last month when it became obvious that the incumbent in that ward, Santiago “Jimbo” Martinez, would not seek re-election.

That left Ward 2 without a candidate.

Fulghum is expected to be declared the winner in that ward, and the Ward 4 election has been canceled.

Elections for three incumbents on the Beeville Water Supply District board of directors also will be canceled.

Those positions are currently held by Jim Crumrine, Ronald “Buddy” Hardy and Bill Stockton.

No one had filed to run against any of the three when the deadline passed last month.

Voters who wish to cast ballots by mail may send an application to City Hall now. The last day to apply for a mail ballot will be May 1. Mail ballots must be returned to City Hall, by mail, by the time the polls close on May 10.
