Education is more important

I taught in Beeville Independent School District for many years. I cannot understand what is happening at A.C. Jones High School.

While I was teaching at A.C. Jones I developed a curriculum for aquatic science. It was a one-year course that studied all aspects of aquatic science. One of the major units covered the ocean, its features and the life that lives in the ocean. The students studied the organisms that lived in the Gulf Coast and had to learn the description and names of the organisms. They also learned how to use the equipment to collect the organisms.

The highlight of the course was an actual trip to the ocean to collect the organisms that they had learned about. I was surprised and upset to learn that the instructor was told that there was no money for the trip this year.

I ask that the Beeville ISD reconsider this request and find a way to send these students on the trip that they have prepared for all year. If not, I ask the good citizens and friends of Beeville to help this class gain the money they need to take the trip. Education should be the most important task for the school district.
