This letter is to address how the Beeville Little League has been run this year and how the decisions that are made by few affect all the players. Last Thursday night (May 1) at 9:40 our team received a text that all games for the following Friday night (May 2) had been canceled due to the fact that none of the board members could be present. At this time there are 12 board members listed on the Beeville Little League site, but it has not been updated since last year, so we are not sure as to the exact number of members, but, at any rate, they made a commitment to our players to be there for the games.

The Astros had turned in a request to play at the Corpus Christi Hooks field at the coaches meeting, which gave the board 37 days to complete the appropriate paperwork so, as in years past, the players could experience playing inside a professional park and then attend the game afterwards for free.

We were informed on Friday (May 2) at 4:30 p.m. that the insurance paperwork had not been completed and that we would not be able to play at the Hooks field on Saturday (May 3) even though some parents had already made hotel reservations and family members had driven in from as far away as Dallas. The players were so disappointed after Friday’s game being canceled that this news absolutely crushed them! Now, we have heard that we will not be allowed to make up Friday’s canceled game, which means our players will only play in six total games this entire season.

The Official Regulations VII-Schedules states that: “The schedule of games for the regular season shall be prepared by the board of directors of the league and must provide for not less than twelve (12) games per team per regular season, exclusive of playoff and tournament games.” Under the current board our players only participate in six total games.

We understand that board members volunteer, but if you are going to agree to be on the board, then you should agree to be there for the players first. Our players have been treated poorly and without explanation or apology. We know there are other parents and coaches that are just as upset and dismayed about how this season has been run and are already looking for alternatives for next year.
