Editor:

In the piece reporting on a family’s lawsuit claiming damages caused by bad air quality (August 20th, page 1), I was struck by the comments of an attorney for Marathon Oil after the case was dismissed.

He concluded that because the plaintiffs received royalties from their oil and gas lease, “They are more in the oil business than I am.”

His remarks seem to imply that if someone is benefitting financially from oil and gas extraction, they should not complain.

I totally disagree.

Health is not something that can be traded away or exchanged for money. The air we breathe is a commons and must be protected for the health of all who live and breathe over the Eagle Ford.
