Marguerite was dedicated to her family, always first in her heart and on her mind.
She was a rancher’s wife first but worked various jobs through the years and loved being around others. In her spare time, she would needlepoint, garden and read.
Her ready smile and laughter could brighten up any room, and anyone could find her by merely listening for her distinguished laugh.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William Marvin Burwell and Mary Catherine (Lann) Burwell; and three of seven siblings, Charles Burwell, Robert Burwell, and William (Bill) Burwell.
She is survived by her husband, William (Billy) Smith of George West; son, John Hutchens and wife, Lisa, of Corsicana, Texas; daughter, Cathy Andrews and husband, Johnny, of San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Jennifer Rather and husband, Rodney, of Arlington, Texas; and son, Sidney Smith and wife, Harper, of George West. She also is survived by three siblings, Mary Catherine Harrison of Pryor, Oklahoma; Paddy Burwell of Westhoff, Texas; and Betty Gwynne Logel of Santee, California. She also is survived by five grandchildren, Catherine and Julia Andrews; Nathan and Luke Rather; and Ian Hutchens. Her grandchildren called her Momsie and loved to stay with their grandparents at their ranch as much as possible.
A loving grandmother, Momsie relished baking too many treats for her grandchildren, making mountains of food for her guests and spending quiet moments on her coveted covered porch while watching green jays, rabbits and deer at her Malone Ranch home.
She was a member of The Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in George West, TX.
She will be dearly missed. She is gone from our sight but will remain in our hearts forever.
