The commission oversees the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. He replaces Rick Campbell of Center.
“I’m excited,” said Hughes, 51, a 1976 graduate of A.C. Jones High School. “I’ve always been involved in wildlife, hunting, ranching, fishing and coastal activities.
“I realize how important it is for us to protect our natural resources and continue to provide some great state parks for all Texans to be able to enjoy in the years ahead.”
Hughes said he was nominated for this office about three months ago and has been awaiting approval.
“The commission meets several times a year to hear and approve recommendations from the Parks and Wildlife Department,” he said.
“I am looking forward to serving and want to thank the governor for giving me this opportunity to serve the state in this capacity.”
Hughes is president of Dan A. Hughes Company, LP. He is a member of the Texas A&M University College of Geosciences Advisory Council, Sul Ross State University Borderlands Research Institute Advisory Board and All American Wildcatters. He is also a member of the Order of the Alamo and Texas Cavaliers. Hughes received a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University.
He and his wife, Peggy, have three children: Dan Allen III, 23, who attends the University of Arizona; Will, 21, a student at TCU; and Elizabeth, 17, a senior at Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio.
