The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the council chamber at City Hall.
A request from St. Mary’s Academy calls for the closing of the 600 block of East Steiner Street between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on school days.
In addition, commissioners will be asked to consider the possibility of creating crosswalks across North Washington Street at Walton and Carter streets (just north of downtown).
City residents are invited to attend the meeting to express their opinions on each of the proposals.
The commission will forward its recommendations to the City Council for final approval of the requests.

concerning street closings:
I wish the commisioners would try to enter and/or leave A.C. Jones H.S. at 3:36 P.M. during a regular school week.
The two sections of Trojan Drive intersect with N. Adams and this creates a dangerous driving zone. It's kind of like a real-world game of "Frogger"-only drivers, passengers, and pedestrians are the ones who risk being squashed.
If they would only close the short section of Trojan Drive(by Sonic)during school hours, it would really prevent accidents waiting to happen. Either that, or make that block of N.Adams one-way only during school hours.
It's so dangerous during the school year with two street intersections, two entrances, and two exits(from the h.s. parking lot)all jammed up.
