Every basketball coach you talk to will tell you floor time is a plus anytime you can get it. The Pettus Lady Eagle summer league is providing a lot of extra floor time for several local area high school teams.

The Beeville girls have two teams (White and Blue) divided mainly along varsity and freshman lines. The White squad is composed of those Lady Trojans with experience at the varsity or junior varsity level. The Blue team has several incoming freshmen girls along with a handful of soon-to-be sophomores on their roster.

Other teams participating include host Pettus, Skidmore-Tynan, Kenedy, Runge and Goliad, all varsity laden teams.

In games through last Monday, the Goliad Lady Tigers and the Beeville Blue squad have each compiled three wins. Pettus, S-T and the Beeville White team have all won one game.

The competition is tough and the girls get several benefits from the action. Teamwork, conditioning and, of course, that extra floor time that could be limited in the fall are all benefits of playing. The league play definitely helps the athletes get a head start on their school-year fall seasons.

The teams play again on Monday night in Pettus. The Lady Eagles play the S-T Lady Cats at 4 p.m.

The two Beeville teams are set to square off against each other at 5 p.m. in a battle of bragging rights.

Goliad will then take the floor against Pettus at 6 p.m.

The winners of the Beeville contest and the Goliad vs. Pettus game will meet at 8 p.m. in the night’s finale. The losers in those contests will meet at 7 p.m.
