The Rio Medio Chapter of Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) recently conducted a memorial marker ceremony to commemorate the placement of a DRT memorial medallion on the headstone of Gail Irby Blackmon.

On the morning of May 19, DRT members and associate members met at Glenwood Cemetery in Beeville for a ceremony at the gravesite of Mrs. Blackmon, a charter member of the Rio Medio Chapter of DRT. She served as president of the chapter from 1989-1991.

Sandra Jones, DRT Rio Medio Chapter president, opened the ceremony by welcoming family and friends. Chaplain Ann Chambless led the attendees in The Lord’s Prayer, and then invited comments and tributes from family members and friends. Several family members and numerous friends from the group of 25 expressed their love and admiration for their mother and friend.

Family members in attendance included Blackmon’s sons, David Blackmon of Houston and Robert Blackmon of West Hollywood, Calif.; daughters, Ruth Lippard of Kerrville and Abigail Orchard of Pflugerville; and other extended family members.

The DRT is one of the oldest patriotic women’s organizations in the country composed of women who are direct descendants of the men and women who established the Republic of Texas. The objective of the association is to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved and maintained the independence of Texas and to encourage historical research into the earliest records of Texas.

Preceding the memorial marker dedication ceremony, DRT members met for their regular business meeting. President Jones installed Ann Chambless as president for 2009-2011 and announced that other officers will be Sandra Jones, first vice president; Mary Ellen Thoms, secretary; and Myrtle Bocquet, treasurer.

Failed is what you display. Your sentence structure is atrocious and sub 4th grade level. Your pathetic attempt at admonishment is well, just that pathetic. If you had more than one brain cell then the chronographic posts would reveal my intent, moron. Can you comprehend what your read, even at your subnormal reading level, the intent is clear! Dreamweaver you really must move on, with your other names also. Your history knowledge is in the idiot range.

Either ignorant hellfire isn't from Texas or failed 7th grade. Who hasn't heard of the immortal 32. Basic Texas History. Come and Take It cannon fame, the Alamo, 2 of the most important events in Texas history. I thought the drt was for promoting Texas history they haven't done a very good job of it, if "Quote" "no one ever hear of the immortal gonzales 32". Seems the drt is more interested in having these drt memorial ceremonies rather than "Quote" "The objective of the association is to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved and maintained the independence of Texas and to encourage historical research into the earliest records of Texas." Poor job drt, just look at the below comments, the drt isn't fulfilling their objective.

Where was her ancester during Come & Take It, Seige of Bexar, The Alamo, Goliad, yeah alot of men participated in the Battle of San Jacinto it doesn't make them a hero, my Ancestor was a hero and his name lives on for his sacrifice at the Alamo he came to the aid of his neighbors from Gonzales making him one of Gonzales' IMMORTAL 32.....Enough Said...

Remember The Alamo & Its HEROES!!!

Saltpork see you were quick to take up for your Mom...hehehe

Its too bad the DRT allows anyone to join that was here by Feb 1846, long after the Texas Revolution was fought and won, which sadly lets in these vampires that think they had something to do with Texas Independence. Funny how this article makes no mention of the ancestor that allowed her membership into the DRT. I love how these old broads come in like they are the ones that won the Battle of San Jacinto. So she got a Citizen of the Republic of Texas medallion, cheaply made I might add...all on the skirt of ancestors. Those old ladies love to take the glory just because they are related to people that showed up in Texas after the fighting was over.

Remember the Alamo!

Remember Goliad!

The plight of the Native Americana's is nothing to joke about their land and customs were almost wiped out and some were. At least they got Custer.

As for the Mexicans, what innocence? They fought along side the white man in the Siege of Bexar, the Alamo, Goliad, San Jacinto ie the Texas Revolution. The difference between Santa Anna's Mexicans fighting the Whites & Texians in the Texas Revolution was character, the whites & Texians showed mercy when they captured Santa Anna and his men they were not massacred, put in a funeral pyre and burned. If the Whites & Texians had let Mexico rule Texas, Texas would be just like Mexico...oops it is...my bad.

If Mexicos' government is so great why are you all crossing the border everyday?

The Mexicans have already taken over, look around we have Mayors, City Council, etc... Get over it!

Okay, you have my permission to open a Casino.

Now, get over it and move on.
