Rex Minton Smith was born in Beeville to Charles M. (Smitty) Smith and Mabel Lehman Smith.
Rex attended A.C. Jones High School and graduated in 1959. Rex graduated in 1961 from Del Mar College in Corpus Christi with an Associates Degree in Auto Mechanics. He also earned his Teaching Certificate from Texas A&M University at College Station in 1966. Rex was employed as an instructor in the Auto Mechanics Program at Bee County College, now known as Coastal Bend College, from its inception in 1967 until retiring in 1996. He returned as a Lab Assistant in the 2004 summer semester and continued until his passing. He wanted to continue helping students in the field that he so enjoyed.
He was preceded in death by his parents C.M. (Smitty) Smith and Mabel Lehman Smith. He is survived by his children Kim Smith Keelan of San Antonio and Chad Minton Smith (Jennifer) of Beeville. He is also survived by grandchildren Jennifer R. Keelan of San Antonio and Sierra M. and Charles M. Smith of Beeville.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 27th at 10 a.m. at Galloway Funeral Home.
