According to Karnes City police records, Sergio Arguellez, 20, died as a result of injuries received when his vehicle collided with Dieringer’s.
Dieringer was allegedly driving while intoxicated. He was traveling south on Panna Maria Street and Arguellez was traveling east on South Line Street when they crashed.
Salas said, “From what the officers tell me, EMS believes he [Arguellez] was already dead by the time they arrived.” Arguellez was officially pronounced dead at 2:31 a.m. (May 31) by Justice of the Peace, Pct. 2 Caroline Korzekwa.
“There were no passengers in either vehicle – both (were) single occupants,” Salas said.
Dieringer was transported to the hospital and was released with no injuries, the chief continued. The suspect was subsequently charged with intoxication manslaughter and transported to the Karnes County jail.He was magistrated by Karnes City Municipal Judge James O’Connell at 1 p.m. on May 31. Bond was set at $100,000. Dieringer posted bond by 5:31 p.m. the same day and was released.
