Mrs. Marsha Jean Rankin Balch, 73, of Beeville and formerly of San Antonio, died on Tuesday, June 3, 2008.

She was born on Dec. 11, 1934, in Edcouch to John Lee and Isa Lou Serratt Rankin. She worked as a seamstress and was a member of the VFW and Daughters of the Republic. She was a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oliver Eugene Balch, in 1992; one brother, Louis Shine Rankin; one sister, Patricia Lou Rankin; and one son, Larry Gene Merritt.

Survivors include three daughters, Liz Merritt and Marti (Mark) Garza, both of Beeville, and Marsha Johnson of Medina; one brother, Fred (Christina) Rankin of Alice; four sisters, Jo Ann (Clem) Tiddsworth of Rockport, Linda Dickinson of Tennessee, Sandra (Jim) Jackson of Mico, and Renee Rankin of Kentucky; two stepsons, Charlie Gene “Tanker” Balch and Terry Jo Balch, both of Cameron; one stepdaughter, Charlotte Balch Rogers of Waco; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Galloway & Sons chapel with Chaplain William H. Carr officiating.

Mr. Fabian Carrizales Sr., 53, of Beeville, died on Monday, June 2, 2008, in Victoria.

He was born Jan. 20, 1955, in Beeville to Juan and Alcaria Hyturria Carrizales. He graduated from A.C. Jones High School in 1974. He worked in oilfield construction and was a Catholic.

He is survived by his parents, Juan and Alcaria Carrizales of Beeville; one daughter, Jessica Marie Carrizales of Corpus Christi; two sons, Fabian Carrizales Jr. of Beeville and John David (July) Carrizales of Hawaii; one sister, Yolanda (Martin) Montez of Beeville; five grandchildren, Joshua Eli Carrizales, Jacob Carrizales, Elsa Victoria and Erika Marie Sanchez and Brianna Nicole Carrizales; two uncles, Ascencion Carrizales of Beeville and Domingo Carrizales of Midland; two aunts, Janie Carrizales of New Jersey and Eugenia Carrizales of Austin; and three nephews, Martin Montez III and Michael and Isaiah Montez.

A rosary is to be recited at 7 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jessica Marie Carrizales, Fabian Carrizales Jr., Adolfo Moreno, Isiah Montez, Conrado Garcia and Jeffery Silva.

Mrs. Dorothy Behetheland Calhoun Carter

Dorothy Behetheland Calhoun Carter went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 31, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born September 17, 1935 in Beeville, Texas to Walter and Mary Calhoun. She lived in Beeville through her school years, graduating from high school in 1953. She earned an Education Degree from SMU. Dorothy married Ray Don Carter in 1958, and they were separated by his death in 1996. Dorothy taught middle school for 30 years in schools in Dallas, Corpus Christi, and LaPorte. She was a crusader of proper English and grammar until the end.

After her retirement in 1991, she and Ray Don moved to Wimberley where they continued to live life to the fullest. Dorothy loved Wimberley and was involved in many activities and organizations. She was an active member of her beloved Chapel in the Hills church where she once served as president. Her other involvements included New Neighbors, Civic Club, Hobby Lobby, Wimberley Home Tour, Daughters of American Revolution, Dinner Club, Red Hatters, and she was an active volunteer for the Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Wimberley. She enjoyed playing Mah Jongg and bridge and many other games.

Dorothy was very precious, and her life was a gift to all who knew her. She loved getting together with her family for any and all occasions. A beautiful light has gone out. A new, bright star shines in the heavens.

She is survived by three daughters: Lisa (Manuel) McCullough, Diane (Greg) Whitaker, and Christie (Mike) Ortiz. She loved her eight grandchildren: Nicole (Joe) Galvan, Cody McCullough, April McCullough, Carter, Connor, and Calvin Whitaker, Kelsey and Savannah Ortiz, and one great-granddaughter Breana Galvan. She is also survived by her sister Marilee (Jack) Deer and her family.

The family received friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. June 2, 2008 at Thomason Funeral Home in Wimberley. Services were held in the Chapel in the Hills at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008 with Jim Denham officiating. Interment was June 3, 2008 at 4 p.m. at Glenwood Cemetery in Beeville, Texas.

Memorials may be made to Chapel in the Hills.

Mr. Roger Monsevais DeLaCruz, 30, of Beeville, died on Tuesday, June 3, 2008.

He was born Feb. 10, 1978, in Beeville to Maggie Monsevais and Juan DeLaCruz. He married Laura Alonzo in Beeville in 2005. He was employed as an auditor for Stripes Convenience Stores. He was a Pentecostal.

He is survived by his wife, Laura DeLaCruz of Beeville; two sons, Roger DeLaCruz Jr. of Temple and Juan Diego DeLaCruz of Beeville; one stepson, Christopher Hernandez of Beeville; three daughters, Angel Nicole DeLaCruz of Corpus Christi, Ashley Danielle DeLaCruz and Alyssa Marie DeLaCruz, both of Beeville; his mother, Maggie Monsevais of Beeville; three brothers, Billy DeLaCruz of Beeville, Juan DeLaCruz Jr. and Marcelo DeLaCruz, both of Ennis; one sister, JoAnn DeLaCruz of Beeville; and his maternal grandmother, Natalia Perez Monsevais of Beeville.

She was born in Matamoros, Mexico, on April 12, 1938, to Isabel Hernandez and Refugio Vigil. She was a housewife.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Norberto Hernandez of Beeville; five daughters, Maria Estella Castro and Cecilia Luton, both of Matamoros, Mexico, Ermelinda Rodriguez of Rio Hondo, and Sylvia Baru and Isabel Hernandez, both of Beeville; two sons, Antonio Hernandez of Matamoros, Mexico, and Fernando “El Muneco” Hernandez of Houston; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday in Matamoros, Mexico. Burial was at Panteon Ejido Harrados in Matamoros, Mexico.

Mrs. Mary Pearl Patterson Maples, 91, of Beeville, died on Sunday, June 1, 2008.

She was born on Nov. 17, 1916, and married Marvin Wilson Maples in Bronte on Nov. 16, 1932. She was the retired owner of Maples Grocery. She was a member of Cadiz Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Geraldine Maples (Ralph C.) Pike of Albuquerque, N.M.; one grandson, Mark Stephen Pike; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Geneva Newman of San Antonio.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Galloway & Sons chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Cadiz Baptist Church with Rev. R.C. Jeanes officiating. Burial will follow at Lebanon Cemetery in the Cadiz community.

She was born Nov. 23, 1944, in Karnes County to Gilberto and Tomasa Barrientez Mendoza.

She is survived by her mother, Tomasa Mendoza; six sons, Mauro Jr., Pedro, Johnny, Alfredo, Israel and Remijio; nine daughters, Linda, Norma, Irene, Juanita, Delma, Gloria, Estela, Rose Mary and Jennifer; one sister; four brothers; 38 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father; her husband, Mauro Torres Sr.; one brother; and two grandchildren.

A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Finch Funeral Chapel in Runge. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Antonia R. Gonzales Villegas of Beeville; two daughters, Priscilla Sackett of Rio Rico, Ariz., and Dorothy Rodriguez of Portland; three stepsons, Ray Pena and Albert Cardenas, both of Beeville, and Salvador Cardenas of Jacksonville, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Linda Barr of Corpus Christi and Lillie Mae Garza of Beeville; three brothers, Dario Villegas of Lyford, Daniel Villegas of Brownsville and Saul Villegas of Pacifica, Calif.; six sisters, Orpah Banfelder of Sarasota, Fla., Lucia Benkert of Miami, Fla., Elizabeth Harper of San Benito, Raquel de la Fuente and Sarah de Luna, both of Brownsville, and Rebecca Garza of Houston; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Betty Alayne Weaver-Hunt, 73, of Beeville, died on Sunday, June 1, 2008.

She was born on April 23, 1935, in Sinton to Cleo and Virgie Hart Bell. She married Charles Gilbert Hunt in Sinton on July 2, 1984. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was the retired owner of Weaver Auto Parts, owner-secretary of Hunt Auto Company and was retired from Texas Workforce.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, C.A. Weaver and Charles Gilbert Hunt; and one stepson, Charles Gilbert Hunt Jr.

Survivors include one son, Jimmy Weaver-Hunt and wife Sheryl of Beeville; one daughter, Karen Kay Weaver-Hunt of Corpus Christi; four grandchildren, Jason Besanceney, James E. Weaver-Hunt, Mary Cantu and Roman Cantu; one sister, Sue Noster and husband Robert of Bay City; one aunt, Lois Barber of Sinton; and one sister-in-law, Shirley Hall of Beeville.

Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Beeville Memorial Park with Tim Rogers officiating.

Pallbearers were Bob Smigielski, Jimmy Jackson, Michael Young, Erwin Massengale, Gene Garcia and Brennen Pinchback.

Archie Noel Woody, 71, of Normanna, died on Monday, June 2, 2008.

He was born on Feb. 20, 1937, in Old Joe, Ark., to Sylvester Vessie and Opal Young Woody. He married Jo Hall in Rockport on Oct. 12, 1965. He was retired from the United States Navy and was a retired mechanic from Diamond Shamrock. He was a Baptist.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Hall Woody of Normanna; one stepson, Shannon (JoAnn) Clowers of Beeville; three stepgrandchildren, Chad Niemi, Brandon Clowers and Caleb Clowers; two brothers, Jerry Woody of Garland and Keith Woody of Rockport; and one sister, Glenda Woody of Tulsa.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Galloway & Sons chapel. Funeral services will be held there at 2 p.m. that same day with Bill Stockton officiating. Special music will be “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.” Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Betty Alayne Weaver-Hunt, 73, of Beeville, died on Sunday, June 1, 2008.

She was born on April 23, 1935, in Sinton to Cleo and Virgie Hart Bell. She married Charles Gilbert Hunt in Sinton on July 2, 1984. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was the retired owner of Weaver Auto Parts, owner-secretary of Hunt Auto Company and was retired from Texas Workforce.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, C.A. Weaver and Charles Gilbert Hunt; and one stepson, Charles Gilbert Hunt Jr.

Survivors include one son, Jimmy Weaver-Hunt and wife Sheryl of Beeville; one daughter, Karen Kay Weaver-Hunt of Corpus Christi; four grandchildren, Jason Besanceney, James E. Weaver-Hunt, Mary Cantu and Roman Cantu; one sister, Sue Noster and husband Robert of Bay City; one aunt, Lois Barber of Sinton; and one sister-in-law, Shirley Hall of Beeville.

Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Beeville Memorial Park with Tim Rogers officiating.

Pallbearers were Bob Smigielski, Jimmy Jackson, Michael Young, Erwin Massengale, Gene Garcia and Brennen Pinchback.

Mr. Woody

Archie Noel Woody, 71, of Normanna, died on Monday, June 2, 2008.

He was born on Feb. 20, 1937, in Old Joe, Ark., to Sylvester Vessie and Opal Young Woody. He married Jo Hall in Rockport on Oct. 12, 1965. He was retired from the United States Navy and was a retired mechanic from Diamond Shamrock. He was a Baptist.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Hall Woody of Normanna; one stepson, Shannon (JoAnn) Clowers of Beeville; three stepgrandchildren, Chad Niemi, Brandon Clowers and Caleb Clowers; two brothers, Jerry Woody of Garland and Keith Woody of Rockport; and one sister, Glenda Woody of Tulsa.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Galloway & Sons chapel. Funeral services will be held there at 2 p.m. that same day with Bill Stockton officiating. Special music will be “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.” Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mark Mundine, Robert Jonas, Claude Gunter, Rudy Fuller, David Wittliff, Philip Mika, Joe Gutierrez and Gary Muniz.
