The City of George West is reminding persons that the possession and firing of fireworks within the city limits is prohibited.

Due to the extreme dry conditions that Live Oak County is experiencing, Chief Garcia is warning all persons that his police officers will be strict when enforcing the fireworks ban.

“I hate to be a Grinch in July, but it is very, very dry. Our community is very concerned of possible house and grass fires that may be attributed to the discharge of fire works. I have received numerous phone calls from people worried that their home may catch fire during this 4th of July due to the throwing and discharging of fireworks,” Garcia said.

I am asking for every person to help avoid a disaster by cooperating and if any one observes this ban being violated call the Sheriffs Department at 449-2271, said Garcia in closing.
