The Rialto Theater will hold its annual children’s summer theater workshop July 27-Aug. 1 from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

A registration fee of $50 will be required for each participant.

Alex Garza will be guest teacher. The workshop will be held in the Gertrude R. Jones Fine Arts Auditorium on the Coastal Bend College Beeville campus.

Garza is no stranger to Beeville for he was the drama instructor at Coastal Bend College for more than five years.

In the past he has presented a one-man show for children in Beeville.

While teaching at CBC, he directed a number of productions, including several for young audiences and was the drama instructor during CBC’s Summer Kids’ College Program.

As an actor, he has toured with several professional theater companies, including Austin’s Zachary Scott Theatre Center.

He is also a successful playwright and has received recognition for his work and has had one of his plays produced during the state theater convention. Garza is currently teaching theater at San Antonio College.

The children’s theater workshop will be designed to build self-confidence on the stage.

The children will learn some of the basics of the theater such as positions of the stage, body positions, projection of the voice, pronunciation and body language.

The children also will be instructed on simple makeup and costume design.

The workshop also will emphasize the importance of teamwork.

The children will rehearse a play during the week and will present it on Saturday, Aug. 1, at 10 a.m. in the college auditorium.

This week of the Rialto Theater Children’s Workshop has been partially funded by the Joe Barnhart Foundation.
