A 68-year-old Beeville woman reportedly was flown by HALO-Flight helicopter to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi Tuesday after being struck by a van in the parking lot at the Whataburger restaurant.

According to Sgt. Stephen Phipps, medical personnel at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville said they had arranged for a flight for June Parchman of Beeville.

Parchman was walking from her parked car in the eastern end of the parking lot at 1710 N. St. Mary’s St. at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday when the accident happened.

Detective Lt. Rene Guerrero, who was assisting in the accident investigation, said a Time Warner van had been waiting for another vehicle to get out from behind his vehicle before he backed out of his parking space.

The driver, who Phipps identified as 24-year-old Jeremiah Cruz, never saw the woman and did not know she was there until he felt something strike the 2006 Ford van, according to a police report of the accident.

The woman was knocked to the ground and she struck her head on the pavement when she fell.

Phipps said Parchman obviously was seriously injured but officers at the scene said she tried to speak to emergency medical service personnel from the Angel Care Ambulance Service as they prepared to take her to the hospital here.

Phipps said Tuesday afternoon that the investigation into the accident had been completed and no citations were being issued.
