Born March 31, 1911, in Fentress, Texas, to Alice Meadows Smith and Crawford Lawson Smith, Alice graduated from Robstown High School in May 1929, before attending Texas A&I University in Kingsville. After graduation from Texas A&I, Alice began a long and fruitful career as an educator, teaching school for 34 years.
In November 1927, Alice met the love of her life, Minor Lafayette “Doc” Williams at Robstown High School. The two forged a lifelong love which lasted through the hard days of the Great Depression. After 11 years, the couple wed on Aug. 20, 1938.
To this blessed marriage were born three children: Minor Lafayette III, who passed away two days after birth on May 6, 1943; Alice Lynn and Carl Allen. Alice not only loved her children, she also doted on her grandchildren Wesley and Alicen Swift, Becky Williams Spiekerman and Jeff Williams and two great-grandchildren, Kate Spiekerman and Caleb Williams.
She was an avid reader, devout Christian, and loyal sports fan. She loved playing bridge, traveling, visiting with her many friends, and especially spending time with her family. She was a beloved friend and loved by everyone who met her.
After World War II, Alice and her husband lived in Corpus Christi for more than 20 years, where she was an active member of First Baptist Church of Corpus Christi. In 1966, the couple moved to George West in Live Oak County.
Alice was preceded in death by husband Minor L. Williams Jr. and son Minor L. Williams III, as well as her parents, brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Alice Lynn Swift and her husband Robert of Houston; her son, Carl Allen Williams and his wife Roxanne of Three Rivers; grandchildren Wesley Swift and Alicen Swift of Houston; Becky Williams Spiekerman and her husband John of San Antonio, and Jeffrey Williams and his wife Carrie of San Antonio; her two-great-grandchildren, Kate Spiekerman and Caleb Williams; and numerous extended family and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 5, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of George West, where Alice was a longtime member. Visitation preceded the funeral at 1:00. Interment followed at 4:30 at Robstown Cemetery in Robstown.
