This exhibit examines the traditional lives of the Karankawa and the attempts by the Spanish to convert them to mission life. The Karankawa resistance to the changes demanded of them by Spanish and later Texan settlers eventually led to the near extinction of this proudly independent people.
In conjunction with this exhibit, Goliad State Park will have, on permanent display, a Karankawa fishing bow, which was donated to the park by Karankawa descendant Enrique Gonzales.
The exhibit will run throughout the month and can be viewed between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., seven days a week. The park is located approximately one-half mile south of Goliad on Highway 183. Park entry fees apply.
